Sigalit Landau | The Burning Sea

The Israel Museum, Jerusalem

October 6 2022 – June 17 2023
Curator: Amitai Mendelsohn
Assistant Curator: Rotem Zuta
Designer: Eyal Rozen
Nathan Cummings Building for Modern and Contemporary Art

For twenty years, Sigalit Landau has made art – both monumental and profoundly intimate – at the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.
Inspired by this primal place, Landau creates works of great beauty that address fragile dualities: life and death, injury and healing, destruction and hope.

The Burning Sea presents a selection of Landau’s Dead Sea artworks of the last two decades, from glittering salt-encrusted sculptures through video works and photographs.
The exhibition also premieres a new video trilogy that relates to her idea of building a bridge over the lake, a project that has engaged Landau for many years,
first emerging in her memorable installation at the 2011 Venice Biennale, which is represented here for the first time in Israel.

Uzi Tzur on Uri Radovan and Darren Goins at Hezi Cohen Gallery

Uzi Tsur reviews Uri Radovan’s solo show ‘Paraphernalia’, and Darren Goins solo show ‘Command Shift 4′, currently on exhibition at Hezi Cohen Gallery.

On Uri Radovan: “In a world of rapid reproduction and multiplication Radovan insists, in spite, on a manual, deliberately archaic work process, mocking the intolerable ease of virtual accessibility.”

In Darren Goins’ show “the beautiful arrangement of the sculpture in space and the paintings on the walls unfolds before the viewer in a formal dialogue of similarity and difference, united under the same roof and the same brand.”

Prize committee considerations: His extensive and cohesive work explores issues regarding the essence of the photographic medium, and the changing status of the photographic image, while exposing the production and power mechanisms dominating photography in particular, as well as the wider field of art and culture… His work is characterized by aesthetical sensuality and meticulous treatment, and by integration of direct photography with material installations in space that include objects and architectural elements… so that space becomes an object.
